Determination of Sulfites by Acid Distillation - Ion Chromatography Method

Abstract
Attempts were made to determine more effective analytical method of sulfites using the acid distillation-ion chromatography method. The analysis time of sulfites by the acid distillation-ion chromatography method was only 25 min. The detection limit and recovery using this method were 0.1 ppm SO©üand 100.2-101.4%, respectively. In the analysis of sulfites with this method, no interfering effect of (false positive response by) organic acids was present. The acid distillation-ion chromatography method could be applied for micro- and macrodetermination of sulfites in food and medical herbs. Determination of sulfites using this acid distillation-ion chromatography method was more rapid and accurate than the modified Monnier-Williams method, modified Rankin colorimetry and ion exclusion chromatography method.
